Telangana’s courts had 11,68,225 cases pending as of June 30, 2025. The Supreme Court’s Indian Judiciary Annual Report 2024–25 records 2,29,934 cases in the Telangana High Court and 9,38,291 in the district courts. The arithmetic, unlike the usual official optimism, is clear.
The report records 42 sanctioned judge posts in the High Court, with 26 working judges and 16 vacancies. District courts had 655 sanctioned judicial posts, 434 working officers and 221 vacancies. It also records 31,995 High Court cases and 17,296 district-court cases pending for more than 10 years.
The figures show a large backlog alongside substantial vacancies. They do not, by themselves, prove that vacancies are the sole or principal cause of the backlog. District-court pendency rose from 8,91,598 on July 1, 2024, to 9,38,291 a year later; the report does not attribute that increase to any single cause.
