Congress leaders alleged that BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan made derogatory remarks about Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar during a September 7 confrontation near the Assembly. Police arrested Madhusudhan and fellow BRS MLC Naveen Kumar Reddy on September 8 after a complaint by the Speaker’s Officer on Special Duty, Pollepalli Venkatesham. The Assembly then condemned the “purported” remarks, and the Council suspended both MLCs for the rest of the session. A Nampally court rejected the police remand request.
Madhusudhan denies targeting the Speaker and says he respects both the office and the person. The available record establishes that Congress pushed a complaint and institutions acted on it. It does not establish the exact words, whether they were spoken, or whether they constituted an offence.
