Tollywood’s October 2 calendar needs a traffic police
Nagarjuna has criticised last-minute postponements as several Telugu films crowd the same release window. The calendar, meanwhile, is doing its best impression of a committee meeting.
Several Telugu films are currently listed for release on October 2, though some dates remain uncertain.
Tollywood’s October 2 release calendar is crowded enough to require traffic management. The Box Office Andhra calendar lists Aadarsha Kutumbam, Thella Kagitham, Don’t Trouble the Trouble and dubbed film Sigma for the date. The Telugu Film Producers Council has separately announced Thella Kagitham for October 2. (Box Office Andhra; TFPC)
Don’t Trouble the Trouble was reported to have moved from September 11 to October 2. The postponement of Aadarsha Kutumbam, however, remains unconfirmed: a report said it could move to October 16 because filming and post-production were pending, while the TFPC calendar still carried October 2. Nagarjuna has asked filmmakers to finish films earlier, saying teams should hand over a film at least two weeks before release and questioning why announced dates are postponed. He also admitted Lenin, which he worked on, moved from its announced June 26 date because post-production was incomplete. (Moneycontrol)
The calendar establishes a congestion problem. It does not yet establish a crisis, a fall in audience confidence or damage to theatres. For now, October 2 has more release dates than certainty.
