UoH hunger strike paused, promise pending
AISA says the Vice-Chancellor will place menstrual leave at the Academic Council. The university’s own pages are silent so far.
Students say the hunger strike was paused after an assurance that their demands would be taken to the September Academic Council meeting.
A group of University of Hyderabad students linked to AISA say they have paused a five-day hunger strike after being assured their demands will be taken to the September Academic Council meeting, including menstrual leave and academic support measures. The August 27 report quotes AISA UoH vice-president Siddhant: the VC “assured us to take it up” and they are “confident it will be granted” — with a warning the strike will resume if it is not. An earlier August 21 report said three AISA-associated students began an indefinite hunger strike on August 20 over menstrual leave, attendance relaxations, remedial classes and changes to the UoH Student Assistance fellowship. The university did not respond at that time, the report noted.
What is on the record today: student claims of an assurance. What is not: a UoH notification, Academic Council agenda, or a Teachers’ Association resolution on any of it. The university’s student-notices page shows no such update at publication time. If Delhi’s national parties want a line on campuses, here is one: deliver basic academic support and stop making students starve for a meeting agenda.
