US leg denied. ‘No obstruction,’ says BJP
MEA blocked the US leg of Revanth Reddy’s trip and cleared the UK. The CM cancelled the US plan. Delhi’s line: nothing to see here. Telangana’s line: call it what it is.
The US leg was denied while the UK leg was cleared, according to the reported official sequence.
The BJP-led Centre’s MEA says it denied political clearance for Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s US programme because it wasn’t “appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit”. It cleared his UK leg the same day. According to multiple reports of the on-record briefing, that is the official sequence.
The Telangana CMO said the US visit — pitched around education and tech tie-ups with Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and Virginia Tech — was “forced to cancel” after the denial, and that the rejection came with a “political angle”. The CM returned from London instead of flying on to Boston, and told his delegation to continue pursuing MoUs without him. That is not what “no obstruction” looks like in any language spoken in Telangana.
Cue the BJP: Union minister G Kishan Reddy rejected the charge of deliberate obstruction and called the CM’s allegation baseless, reciting protocols and national interest. The MEA, for its part, has not identified which meeting or item made the US plan “inappropriate”, and no written order was published for anyone to read and decide.
Two facts remain: the MEA denied the US clearance; the CM did not go to the US. Everything after that is spin — and the BJP wants Telangana to pretend the roadblock wasn’t there because they painted it “procedure”.
