Hyderabad Police’s Women Safety Wing entered the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy this week and recorded the statement of a woman trainee IPS officer who has accused fellow trainee M. Uday Krishna Reddy of sexual harassment and assault, according to a city report on the probe. The FIR was registered at Attapur police station in mid-July and the investigation was moved to the Women Safety Wing under DCP P. Lavanya Naik Jadav’s supervision.
Investigators also sought documents from the academy, including the Internal Complaints Committee’s report, the same report said. At that stage, police stated the accused trainee’s statement was “yet to be recorded” and would be taken soon. Reddy later posted that the allegations were “baseless and untrue” and said he trusted the legal process.
Hyderabad’s She Teams and Bharosa framework promises confidentiality and support to women facing abuse; this case will test the system against misconduct alleged inside the country’s top police academy rather than on a city street. The BJP-led Centre runs the academy; it hasn’t bothered to explain how its flagship training ground ended up here.
