Yadadri needs coal; Delhi gets another meeting
Telangana has asked officials to pursue supplies from MCL and Coal India after coal shortages affected generation at Yadadri. No purchase order or allocation has been made public.
Yadadri’s coal request has produced another round of meetings, but no published allocation or delivery schedule.
Telangana has begun steps to source coal from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) and Coal India after shortages affected generation at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station. The coal has not yet arrived; the paperwork is still doing the generating.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials on September 23 to pursue supplies from the two companies and asked Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to discuss the matter with Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, according to an official account reported by PTI. The same account said Yadadri requires G9-grade coal and that Singareni does not currently have blocks capable of producing it. The Ministry of Coal defines G9 coal as having a gross calorific value above 4,600 and up to 4,900 kcal/kg.
TGGENCO had already sought 5 million tonnes from MCL in August, reporting stocks sufficient for four days against a stated 26-day requirement. A reported inter-ministerial record said MCL could supply the coal only with Coal India’s intervention because TGGENCO had no existing linkage with MCL. No allocation, contract, price or delivery schedule has been published. The BJP-led Centre has yet to answer with anything more concrete than another meeting.
