Airport cab boycott announced; disruption still unconfirmed

The cab boycott has been announced; its effect on airport services remains unconfirmed.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union says its members began boycotting trips to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on September 10, citing low fares, long waiting times and airport penalties. The union’s demands include a longer free drop-off window, withdrawal of Rs 500 penalties, transparent fares and action against unauthorised cab operations, according to a report quoting TGPWU founder-president Shaik Salauddin. The airport’s own transport page continues to list Ola, Uber and Rapido, alongside prepaid taxis, radio taxis, car rentals and Pushpak buses. It does not mention a boycott or a service disruption. TGPWU’s public press-release page also does not show a September 2026 release on the action. [2][3]
The underlying dispute is not new. Drivers have previously said airport trips can tie up a vehicle for five or six hours, including long waits for another ride, while fares remain too low. Earlier airport-trip boycotts were reported in 2025, and TGPWU has documented the issue in its own impact report. [4][5][6][7]
So far, the announcement is established; its scale and effect on passengers are not. The airport still lists the cabs. The boycott, for now, has a statement. Hyderabad travellers need a service update.
