KTR rules out BJP alliance before 2028

BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao has ruled out an alliance with the BJP ahead of the 2028 Telangana Assembly election, according to interviews reported by two publications. The BJP, which has spent years treating Telangana as a political expansion project, will have to manage without a local alliance partner for now.
“There have been three general elections since the formation of Telangana and we have never aligned with any party. There is no change in that position. We will not align with the BJP,” Rao was quoted as saying. A June report also recorded him saying the BRS would contest future elections independently.
Rao’s separate position on delimitation is conditional support if southern states receive a proportionate increase in Lok Sabha seats. That is a position on a legislative measure, not evidence of seat-sharing or electoral cooperation. No formal BRS resolution or full recording confirming the latest wording was located, and the BJP has not publicly responded in the material reviewed. For now, the alliance file remains closed; Delhi’s arithmetic will have to do its own campaigning.
