Rashmika Mandanna will play Carnatic legend M.S. Subbulakshmi in MS – A Legacy On Screen, a project announced by Geetha Arts on September 15. Gowtam Tinnanuri is directing and Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music. The announcement, unlike most film announcements, supplied the names before supplying three paragraphs of adjectives. The film’s launch is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, at the Music Academy in Chennai, marking Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary. Kamal Haasan is listed as chief guest. The project is backed by Geetha Arts, Rockline Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works, with Allu Aravind, Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas associated with it. Rashmika described the role as “an absolute honour” in a statement reported by Hindustan Times. The makers have not yet disclosed a release date, filming schedule, full cast, plot details, languages or whether Rashmika will sing on screen. The launch has been announced; the rest remains, sensibly, unannounced.
